DiMola battles more rubbish and finds 1917 World War I medallion
I found on Monday this World War I medallion from 1917. It’s in the shape of an eagle and says “US” on the front and “Defenders of Our Country / U.S. declares war on Germany / April 6 1917” on the back. It was lying in an old desk drawer in an attic in East New York, where I was doing a full clean out of an inherited estate.
Unfortunately, I can’t find much information about this piece, so if you know anything about it, feel free to comment on this blog post. I have a feeling this medallion is a stellar piece of American history, and I’m proud to add it to my collection.
But, that’s not all I took that day. All the contents of the home, from the basement to the attic, had to be removed. Naturally, I took anything that peaked my interest. I snatched this wall calendar, which is from 1971. It was still hanging in the attic. That means it’s been hanging in the attic for 40 years, and that tells me nobody’s been in that attic in a long time.
Another successful estate clean out. Until the next one…
