Garbage guy wrestles up some childhood memories in NYC garbage pickup job
The only thing better than being a kid who watches WWF on Saturday morning is being a grown adult rubbish remover who finds 1980s figurines of WWF wrestlers.
In case you hadn’t figured it out, I’m the latter.
These figurines — I prefer to call them “the future of collectibles” — are the characters from the TV show WWF Superstars of Wrestling, which aired from 1984 to 1996. It was also turned into an arcade game in 1989.
Since I first published this blog post, one of our readers commented below to let us know who these guys were. From left to right, we’ve got Hillbilly Jim, Iron Sheik, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine and Nikolai Volkoff. The guy underneath Iron Shiek is Johnny Valiant.
The figurines are about 8 inches tall and completely made of rubber. The one memory I have of these guys is watching WWF on Saturday mornings and wrestling my brother until I had him in the sleeper hold. This is a cool find that, fortunately, didn’t make it to the landfill because I snatched it up in an NYC garbage pick up job before it could.
